Review: The Breakthrough, the third in a series of Precinct 11 novels by Jerry Jenkins, is an excellent story that will keep readers engrossed to the end. Jenkins, already a respected author, outdid himself with this mystery and suspense novel, creating characters with authentic voices addressing themes, such as human trafficking and international adoption, that are both relevant and timely.

I particularly enjoyed the gritty, down-to-earth Boone Drake and the way in which this hard-core cop struggles with the harsh realities of a fallen world alongside the deep truths of the faith. His is no namby-pamby superficial walk, and throughout the book, he encounters situations that would cause even the strongest to waver. Yet, in helping Boone address these issues, the characters that provide spiritual guidance do not offer tired clichés or easy answers. Instead, they come alongside simply to offer their presence and a shoulder to lean on. Theirs is true community.

I received a complimentary copy of the book for review purposes, and I highly recommend Breakthrough, both for its Christian value and its excellent storytelling. If you are interested in a well-written, fast-paced suspense story, this novel is definitely for you.
